BOCC receives FDOH COVID-19 status report

Dr. Eugenia Ngo-Seidel, head of the Florida Department of Health – Nassau County, gave the Board of County Commissioners and the community an update Wednesday on official statistics for COVID-19 testing in Nassau County and on free testing opportunities next Thursday.

Cruising nowhere...for now

The 735-foot cruise ship Seven Seas Explorer, owned by Regent Seven Sea Cruises and flagged in the Marshall Islands, enters the Port of Fernandina on Thursday morning. The luxury, all-suite, all-balconies ship will dock here without passengers, but with some crew staying onboard.

Two escape house fire

A fire at 206 Citrona Drive in Fernandina Beach caused extensive damage to the home around midday Tuesday. The two people who were inside were able to escape. The home is owned by Dorothy Brazell.

City mulls how it can safely conduct hearings

When will BOCC hearings be back ‘live and in person’?

When will county commissioners return to their boardroom and begin again to hold formal public hearings? That was one question County Manager and Attorney Mike Mullin tried to answer Wednesday at a special meeting of the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners.

17- and 18-year-olds arrested in Callahan shooting incident

According to a news release from Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Ashley Spicer, NCSO deputies were notified of a shooting on Janice Drive in Callahan around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. The unnamed male victim had been shot in the face with a sawed-off shotgun.

Fernandina's mills running strong during crisis

While the tourism and hospitality industry has been hit hard by the coronavirus, the two pulp mills in Fernandina Beach – Rayonier Advanced Materials and WestRock – are up and running, with no layoffs or employee furloughs.
These docks will be installed in the northern basin of the Fernandina Harbor Marina. The docks are currently being stored at the Port of Fernandina. Fernandina’s city commission decides to wait on the state

Though beaches in Georgia and Jacksonville are open with certain limitations, and Nassau County plans to follow suit May 6, the Fernandina Beach City Commission has decided to wait for guidance from the state on when the city’s beach should reopen.
