City of St. Marys to buy three police vehicles

Despite early consternation from one St. Marys City Council member, Council unanimously approved the purchase of three Chevrolet Tahoes for the St. Marys Police Department. The cost of the three vehicles is $149,223.

County EMA earns recertification

Camden County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) recently received its recertification in the National Weather Service’s (NWS) StormReady Program. “This accomplishment is the result of teamwork and partnerships across our community, Emergency Management Director Chuck White said.

Changing of the guard

Maritime Safety and Security Team (MSST) Kings Bay welcomed new leadership last Thursday, as Lt. Cmdr. Jessica Shafer took the reins at a change of command ceremony in St. Marys. Shafer succeeds Lt. Cmdr. Mark Ketchum, who served since 2020. Ketchum will continue his service in the U.S.

Rep. Buddy Carter votes yes on debt ceiling deal

U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) was one of the 314 yes votes May 31 in the House of Representatives, approving the Fiscal Responsibility Act that averted a federal debt default. The vote passed 314-117, with only 149 Republicans of 220 voting in favor.
