Sheriff, commission settle legal dispute

Camden County Sheriff Jim Proctor has dropped his lawsuit against the Board of Commissioners after the board recently approved a spate of pay increases for law enforcement officers during a meeting earlier in September.

The city of St. Marys will soon be opening a city marina. On Monday evening, City Council unanimously approved the St. Marys Intercoastal Gateway Marina’s operations manual, budget, rules and fees. City Manager Robby Horton said the city staff is projecting a “soft opening” of the marina Oct. 2.

Sheriff honors women in law enforcement

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office honored women in law enforcement Sept. 12 as part of National Women Police Officer Week. Sheriff Jim Proctor honored the women of the Camden County Sheriff’s Office by providing a brunch for the women employees of the agency.

Pay bump coming for county first responders

Camden County first responders will soon receive a pay increase after the Camden County Board of Commissioners approved a new salary scale for employees. Commissioners voted 4-0 on Sept. 5 to approve the salary increases. Commissioner Jim Goodman was absent from the meeting.

Seven new firefighters join CCFR

Camden County Fire Rescue has added seven new firefighters to its force after a recruiting class completed its Basic Firefighter requirements. L’Shawn Bermudez, Dominick Esposito, Jaden Lee, Casey Franklin, Keenan Hanna, Joshua Harman and Alaina Knapp were recognized at a graduation ceremony.

‘I’VE GOT TO FIX IT’

Before Jim Proctor was Camden County’s sheriff, he was the sheriff’s office’s jail administrator. For 14 years, Proctor operated the jail. He knows a thing or two about how it works. When Proctor was the jail administrator, the number of inmates was significantly lower.
