Carol Jean Bazemore, formerly of Woodbine and a longtime resident of Camden County, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, in Orlando, Florida.

Carol was born in Tampa, Florida, to Gene and Marie (Williams) Quattlebaum on Nov. 17, 1947, and was the second of three children. Carol and her family lived in Tampa until about 1953, then moved to Waycross for a short time before moving to St. Marys. In 1964, she married her one true love, Andrew “Jack” Bazemore Sr. and together they built a wonderful life and raised their two children, Deniese and Drew.

As a child, she attended Camden County schools and later attended Brunswick Junior College where she earned her associates degree in nursing. While working in various healthcare settings in Camden County, her passion and love for nursing continued to grow. As a young mom, she decided to go back to college again to further her education. She commuted back and forth from St. Marys to the University of North Florida, Jacksonville and graduated with her BSN in 1984 and a few years later graduated from Georgia Southern University with her master’s in nursing.

Carol devoted her nursing career to the medical community of Southeast Georgia, and she loved caring for her patients. She strived to provide compassionate care to each one and quickly earned the trust and adoration of those she served until she retired in 2009.

After retirement, Carol enjoyed reading mysteries, writing her own stories and traveling. She always looked forward to visits from her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Jack; her daughter, Deniese (David) Gaedeke, Harvard, Nebraska, and her son Drew (Shari), Orlando, Florida, nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Charles (Sandi) Quattlebaum, Woodbine, her sister, Linda (Mack) Jackson, Folkston and respective nieces and nephews.
