On Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021 our beloved Stanley Boyd Butler was escorted to his heavenly home.  Stanley, affectionately known as Stan, was born on March 22, 1962, in Jacksonville, Florida. Stan was the youngest of three children born to Ben Butler and Peggy Cuyler Butler. He began his school years at S.P Livingston Elementary School in Jacksonville, Florida. Stanley spent many summers in Tarboro with his cousins and friends. For a brief moment, Stan moved to New Jersey with his mother Peggy, Uncle Mose and Aunt Doris before relocating back to the South. Stanley moved to Camden County when he was in seventh grade and attended Woodbine Elementary. He was reared by Mrs. Julia Massey and his dad, Ben Butler. Stan excelled in all his studies. He never missed a single day of school from 1st through 12th grade. While in high school, Stanley was given an award for saving the life of his teacher, Mr. Carlos Jones Sr., while working on a construction site with his class in downtown St. Marys at Orange Hall.

Throughout school Stanley was known for his high spirits, love for dancing and his funny and charismatic personality. Stanley graduated from Camden County High School in 1980. Stan moved to Atlanta where he attended Georgia State University and studied business administration. While in Atlanta he met and fell in love with Robin Smith, and they later married. To this union, two children were reared, Candice Pye Jackson and Richard Pye.

Stan worked for Kia Mall of Georgia as a finance manager. He worked in the automobile industry for 34 years doing everything from sales, sales manager, finance manager and finance director. He was extremely efficient, a team player and a hard worker. Stan always went the extra mile to ensure his customers were happy. Stan also owned a mortgage brokerage company for seven years. Whatever Stan put his mind and heart to, he made it happen.

Stan was an excellent husband and father. His goal was to make them happy and give them their hearts’ desire. Stan was a praying man. His prayer time was 4 a.m. He loved the Lord and would often say, “God gives me favor,” and God really did. Stan was the life of every event. He always greeted you with a dap, or a hug and big smile. He had a nickname for everyone, and he was going to make sure you felt right at home. He was high energy, positively electric! Once you met him you became a part of the family. He opened his home to everyone, especially family and friends. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for anyone. He was selfless. Stan loved taking trips to the mountains and anywhere that had sandy white beaches. He loved looking over the water he said he felt closest to God there, and it gave him inner peace.

Stan was preceded in death by both his parents, Ben Butler and Peggy Cuyler, a sister, Sheila A. Butler, his special Aunt Lou Ida Wilson and a host of other relatives.
