William Burt Butts, 89, of Seneca, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.  

He was born Aug. 6, 1932, in LaGrange.  

After graduating from Hapeville High School, he attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. After earning his associates degree, he joined the United States Marine Corps.  Upon completion of his military service, he worked for the city of Atlanta until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leverett B. Butts Sr. and Mildred Dunson Butts; brothers, Leverett B. Butts Jr. and Edgar Dunson Butts; and sisters, Helen Butts Hostrawser and Frances Butts Terkanian.

He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed many hobbies, including flying, operating a HAM radio, bird watching, raising chickens, gardening, but especially painting. He shared his talents with family and many friends.

He loved his family, his faith, and his country. He was a gentle and kind soul who always helped his fellow man.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 at East Clemson Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or to the charity of one’s choice.
