Gretchen Janine Calhoun, 50, of Woodbine passed away from a COVID breakthrough. She fought bravely for three months but finally lost her battle on Dec. 17, 2021, while she was at the Select Specialty Hospital in Savannah.

Gretchen attended Mt. Vernon High School in Fortville, Indiana and Indiana Vocational Technical College in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she trained in medical transcription.

Gretchen had a deep love for animals and her pets were a cherished part of her free time.  She also spent many hours gardening and working with flowers and plants.

Gretchen has been preceded in death by her father Robert Stevens and brother, Patrick Todd McPherson.

Gretchen is survived by her husband of 18 years, her best friend and the love of her life, Johnney Calhoun; her children, Bethany Stevens and Katherine Stevens; granddaughter, Daisy Elizabeth Janine Stevens; her mother, Ellen Stevens; and brother, Christian Troy McPherson. She is also survived with loving hearts by Prenell Calhoun, brother-in-law, and Georgia Calhoun and Hattie Calhoun, sisters-in-law.

There will be a celebration of Gretchen’s life at the Harriets Bluff Baptist Church, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, for family and close friends.

The family says that Gretchen’s desire would be that any contributions or tributes go the ASPCA or the Camden County Humane Society.
