Eugene "Gene" Wesley Carroll, 61, of Kingsland passed away at his residence on Nov. 10, 2021.

Gene was born on Nov. 20, 1959, in Anniston, Alabama, to Jesse and Mary Carroll. He was a 1977 graduate of Arab High School in Arab, Alabama. In 1978, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy and retired with 20 years of service.

During his time in the Navy, Gene was a hull technician first class, NTD and received outstanding professional training and certifications in the areas of ultrasonic/radiation testing. Being a person of integrity and conscientious work ethic, Gene always gave his best, and as a result, was the recipient of five Navy Achievement Medals while serving the country he loved. After his naval career (1978-2004), Gene worked for Trident Refit Facility in St. Marys ( 2004-2016) and received the Combined Government Service Award for 32 years of service.

Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman; he enjoyed traveling, racquetball, Alabama football and Braves baseball. He loved and was devoted to his family in Arab, Alabama, and spent many hours on the road going to visit as often as he could. He was a member of the 252 Hunt Club in Camp Lake, where he had many special friends and memories.

Survivors are his mother, Mary Carroll of Arab, Alabama; brothers, Kenneth Carroll of Blountsville, Alabama, and Jesse Carroll III of Arab, Alabama; a sister, Susan Pope (Mike) of Hartselle, Alabama; eight nieces and nephews, Daniel, Rebekah, Wendy, Janet, Rachel, Jacob, Juliana, Joshua and a host of great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Arab at a later date.
