WESTON — Deacon Alphonso Weston passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Deacon Alphonso Weston was born Jan. 31, 1933, to the late Aaron Weston and Leatha Roberts-Weston in Woodbine, Ga. Alphonso was a 1954 graduate of Ralph Bunche High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he spent the next two years of his life in the 62nd Chemical Corp. After returning home from the military, he met and married the love of his life, Lilla Parrish-Weston, in 1957. To this union one child was born, Tresa Weston.

Alphonso was employed with the Camden County Board of Education, where he worked in maintenance for 32 years and as a bus driver before retiring. Deacon Weston was a lifelong member of Westlight Baptist Church, where he served under the leadership of the Rev. Clinton R. Terry as an ordained deacon, chairman of the Deacon Board and secretary of Sunday School. His hobbies included fishing and hunting, and he loved his dog, Dozer.

Deacon Weston was preceded in death by both parents, Aaron and Leatha Weston; loving wife, Lilla Parrish Weston; brother, Felix Weston; two sisters, Dorothy Hamilton and Ethel Lee Malarie; niece, Martha Rogers; nephew, James Hamilton; and close friend, Laurie Drummond.

Survivors include his daughter, Tresa Weston of Woodbine, Ga.; nephew who was like a son, James (Michelle) Parrish of Fayetteville, N.C.; two grandsons, Christopher R. Parrish and James Parrish Jr.; two sisters, Laura Weston of Scarlet, Ga., and Betty Cain of Atlanta, Ga.; three brothers, Calvin (Barbara) Weston of Woodbine, Ga., Bennie (Daisy) Weston of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bobby (Ella) Weston of Anniston, Ala.; brothers-in-law, Leotis Parrish of White Oak, Ga., James (Nyanja) Parrish of Savannah, Ga., and Theodore Parrish of Atlanta, Ga.; sister-in-law, Jerelene (Isaiah) Williams of Savannah, Ga.; devoted special friend, Bertha Scott of Springhill, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. 

There will not be a wake or visitation. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to services from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at Westlight Baptist Church, 6201 Old Jefferson Highway in Woodbine, Ga.

Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery with military honors.
