KIEGEL – Janet F. Kiegel, 93, went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2022.

She was born March 25, 1929, in New York City, the daughter of Norman H. Gaylor and Frances Hughes Gaylor. She attended Dominican Commercial High School, and worked in business administration and real estate. She was the second female school bus driver in New York. On Feb. 19, 1949, she married Joseph H. Kiegel in Queens, New York. Their marriage lasted until his death in 1987.

Janet loved her family deeply. She was an avid reader, a fan of tennis, golf and NASCAR, enjoyed telling jokes and loved to keep up with her large family through Facebook. She lived on Long Island, New York and in Brazil, Florida and Georgia, and had traveled to the United Kingdom and France.

Janet is survived by her children, Joseph M. (Delores) Kiegel, Jacqueline (Gary) Maher, Joanne (Norman) Kuriyan, John M. (Janice) Kiegel Sr. and James N. Kiegel. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Dr. Donald H. Gaylor and Robert Grattan, and two grandchildren.

The family would like to acknowledge and deeply thank the staff of Life Care Center of Hilliard, Fla., for their care, attention, friendship and love given to our mother for the last eight years. We are deeply indebted to all of you. Janet requested cremation with no services.

Arrangements are being handled by Allison Memorial Chapel.

Janet requested that all her family and friends remember her as she lived, with humor and grace.
