DORSEY – Lucille Dillard Dorsey, 85, of St. Marys, Ga., and native of Toms River, N.J., passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Harborview Nursing Facility in Jesup, Ga.

"Aunt Lou,” as she was affectionately known by her nieces and nephews, was born Aug. 19, 1936, with her late twin sister, Josephine Dillard-Hall, in Lakewood, N.J., to the late Goldie and Mary Smith-Dillard Sr. Lucille was educated in the public school system of Toms River High School in New Jersey. Her work history consisted of working as a certified nursing assistant most of her life and worked at "The Car Wash" as a detailer, and her winsome personality proved to be a winner when it came to the detailing business. She put everything she had into everything she did. It had to be right, point blank, period. She possessed very strict standards and stood strong to them. Lucille was the life of the party. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.

Her journey that led her to Georgia came by way of Toms River, N.J., to Trenton, N.J., to Jacksonville, Fla., and then to St. Marys, Ga. She was the former wife of Roland Dorsey, whom she remained cordial with even after the divorce. Lucille was a straight forward person that didn't mince words with anyone and was very clear on her intentions, but twice as sweet when she wanted. She was a hoot to be around and loved to laugh. Lucille thought the world of her family and regretted not being able to travel to visit her family because of her worsening health problems.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Goldie and Mary Smith-Dillard Sr.; siblings, Elizabeth Martin, Gertrude Craighead, Josephine Dillard-Hall, Marshall Dillard Sr., Goldie Curtis Dillard Jr. and Oscar James Dillard; grandchild, Manique; great-grandchild, Kaheem; and daughter in-law, Valerie Dillard.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lucinda Dillard of Trenton, N.J.; son, Larry Dillard of Trenton, N.J.; last surviving sister, Edna Richardson of Roxboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, Ebony Dillard, Keith Saunders, Kimilah Saunders and Tracy Dillard, all of Trenton, N.J., Porsha Dillard of Atlanta, Ga., and Julius Dillard of Kennesaw, Ga.; and 21 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
