ANTHONY — Marcel Anthony, 73, of Kingsland, Ga., passed away suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, at Southeast Georgia Health Systems – Camden Campus.

Our community sadly lost a loved one Sept. 6, 2022, when Mr. Marcel Anthony, also known as “Mummsy,” passed away from cardiac arrest. He was born Jan. 5, 1949, in Grand Rapids, Mich., in Kent County, the son of James E. Anthony and Mary L. Campbell. As a young man, he started washing windows within his father’s window washing business, working in Carbondale, Ill.

In the summer of 1967 while washing windows, he saw a beautiful woman walking to work and fell in love with her. He told his father that he met the woman of his dreams; the rest is history. They have two sons, Michael and Marc Anthony. He also has a daughter, Porsia Brown, and son, Jason Pena.

In 1968, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a traffic management specialist for 26 years. He served in Vietnam and Southwest Asia conflicts. He retired honorably from the Marine Corps in 1995 as a master sergeant (E-8). He as a member of the American Legion Post #511 as the post service officer. He remained a permanent resident of Kingsland until his passing.

Marcel moved next door to his best friend and Marine Corps brother, Brad Smith and his family. He was kind hearted and loved the people who surrounded him. Whenever he met or was introduced to someone, he would greet them with open arms and treat them as family. His contributions to the community will never be forgotten by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Anthony and Mary L. Campbell; sisters, Saundra Anthony and Shirley Anthony; and brother, Ramel Anthony.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Joan Anthony; their two sons, Michael and Marc Anthony, along with his daughter, Porsia Brown and son, Jason Pena; sister, Yvonne Reid (Anthony); brother, Basheer Wadoo-Anthony; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, at Zion Sisters Baptist Church, 504 Springhill Road in Kingsland. There will be no wake. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Masks are required.
