Paul Keith Pheister Jr., 70, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 at his residence.
Born on Feb. 16, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Paul Keith Pheister and Donna Jean Hamm. He grew up in Fenton, Michigan, with three siblings: Carol Banfield (Mike), Cathy Bordner (Denny) and Steve Pheister.
After graduation, Paul joined the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served for 20 years. After his retirement from the Navy, Paul earned his master’s degree in education and taught elementary school for 10 years.
Paul was accomplished at gardening. He often grew vegetables, a variety of flowers, and trees in his neatly landscaped yard. He was a wonderful cook and loved to grill out. He was a born storyteller and loved baseball, camping and fishing.
Paul leaves behind his children: Audrey Robles (Rick), Adam Pheister, and Alex Pheister (Jacqueline). He was also blessed with many grandchildren: Caroline Benn (DJ), the late Thomas Edison Casey V, Paul Pheister, Timothy Pheister, Thomas Pheister, Andy Pheister, Jaxon Flynn, Jeffrey Pheister, and Jordan Pheister. He had four great grandchildren: Zoe Benn, Emilie Benn, Catherine Benn, and Matthew Benn. He had many nieces and nephews who will miss him as well.
A memorial service with military honors was held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at at St. Marys United Methodist Church in St. Marys. Paul will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
