PATTERSON – The Rev. Mark A. Patterson, 65, of Kingsland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 24, 2022. He was blessed to be surrounded by his loving family at the time.

Mark was born in Alameda, Calif., and was a son of the late Dorothy Macon Patterson and Leonard D. Patterson Sr.

Mark moved to the area some 35 years ago to begin work at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base. In addition to his work at Kings Bay, he was a bivocational pastor. He was the pastor of Hedges Baptist Church for nearly 23 years before becoming pastor at Browntown Baptist Church near Kingsland. He served there for the past five years before his health required him to step down from the pulpit.

He truly loved the Lord and his relationship with Jesus was always first. His love for Jesus also drove his love for his family. His wife, children and grandchildren always came first for him. He did enjoy surfing as a young man and had a good time hunting, in archery and shooting, but it was always family for him. Trips to the mountains were marked by renting a cabin, gathering as much family as he could under that one roof and then thoroughly loving all who were there.

His children will aways remember his favorite line to them, “Who loves ya, baby?” His love of the Savior and family was on display when he would remind his family, “Only one life will soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.” His love and care for his wife, children and grandchildren was exemplary.

He leaves behind his wife, Diane Patterson of Kingsland; four daughters, Nicole (Russell) Strickland of Kingsland, Natalie (Glynn) Browder of Fernandina Beach, Nina (Berry) Zetterower of Fernandina Beach and Christine (Daniel) Boles of Kingsland; sister, Alta D’Atri of Yulee; brother, Leonard (Tamara) Patterson of Diamond Head, Miss.; 10 grandchildren, Nathan (Teryn) Strickland, Abigail Zetterower, Caroline Zetterower, Lindsey Strickland, Emma Browder, Macie Browder, Landon Zetterower, Aliya Browder, Grayson Zetterower and Brayden Boles; and several extended family members.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Browntown Baptist Church. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

He was laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
