Betty Jean Craven Trapnell, 88, of St. Marys passed away on Dec. 26, 2021, at The Lakes Crossing Senior Living Care Facility, Kingsland.

Betty was born on Aug. 28, 1933, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Kirby T. and Elsie Rae Hammond Craven. She had resided in Camden County since 1965 and was retired from Gilman Paper Company where she worked as a nurse in first aid. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Marys, where she had served as treasurer for the Senior Ladies (Heaven Bound) Sunday School Class. Betty was a longtime Christian who loved the Lord, her church and her church family. In her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and Sam the dog. Betty had a great sense of humor, beautiful smile and a great love of animals especially dogs.

She is survived by her children, William D. Trapnell III (Frances) and Wendy Trapnell Owen, both of Kingsland, and Diane T. Green (Wayne) of St. Marys; a sister, Marlene Sexton of Lawrenceville; and grandchildren, Scott Vossler, Phillip Vossler, Kathy Crawford, Kenneth Trapnell Jr. and Joshua Trapnell. Betty had numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kirby T. Craven; her mother, Elsie Rae Hammond Craven; husband, William D. “Sonny” Trapnell Jr.; son, Kenneth Wayne Trapnell; brother, Jerry Allen Craven; sister-in-law, Ollie Craven (Jerry) and brother-in-law, John Sexton (Marlene).

Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at the First Baptist Church, St. Marys, with funeral services to follow. Brother Steve Kegley will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.

Pallbearers will be Scott Vossler, Phillip Vossler, Kenneth Trapnell Jr. and Niles Trapnell (two TBD). Honorary pallbearers will be Kathy Crawford and the Senior Ladies (Heaven Bound) Sunday School Class.
