Madeline Lambert Way was born on July 17, 1923, in Woodbine.

She departed this earthly life on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022.

She is the daughter of the late Ocie and Marie Lockley. She was the wife of Curtis Way, who preceded her in death. She was the mother of 12 children, two of whom preceded her in death, Harry Way and John Way.

Mrs. Way, (“Mattie”) who was also known as “Granny” and “Gramps.” She was an affectionately mother, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She had pride and enjoyment with her flowers and raking the yard. She especially enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Way is survived by her children, James Lockley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lewis Way of Kingsland, Deacon Kenneth (Loritha) Way of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Ulysses (Marlene) Way of Kingsland, Sandra (Rev. Derry Mainor) of Woodbine, Clifford Way of Kingsland, Thelma (Joe) Brown of Kingsland, Evangelist Annette Stanley of Jacksonville, Florida, Larry (Deloris) Way of Atlanta, Lucinda (Barry) Hamilton of Brunswick.

Mrs. Way also leaves to cherish her memories two very loving sisters, Ocie (Willie) Armstrong of Jacksonville, Florida, and Essie (Albert) Armstrong of Lauderhill, Florida; a sister, Annie Jacobs (deceased); a brother, Frank Lockley (deceased); a daughter in-law, Mary Lockley (deceased); two daughters in-law Ella Way and Geraldine Way; one sister in-law, Odessa Lockley; nieces Maria Lockley, Brenda Brock and Maggie Jamieson; nephews Albert Armstrong Jr., Michelle Armstrong, cousin Sis. Pearlie Edward and one God child, Verlene King.

Mrs. Way had 46 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren, 38 great-great grandchildren and adopted children, Rev. Leon (Katherine), (Jason) Washington and David Sharps; a devoted ex-daughter-in-law, Sandra Way Craig; and special friends Minister Ada Bryant (Deacon Joe Bryant), Minister Albert (Nina) Fairly, Minister Jaunce (Jannie) Wilson, Deacon Frank (Beverly) Watts, Deacon Melton (Betty) Robinson, Cheryl Flowers, Osborne (Aileen) Williams, Jodie Poole, Brenda Hicks, Tonya Baily, Margaret Flowers and Yvette Burch; a very special friend, Deloris Sullivan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. 

A walk-thru viewing will be held 2-4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11 at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys for the public.

In an effort to minimize the risk of spreading COVID 19, those planning to attend will be asked to wear masks.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at Evergreen Cemetery (a.k.a. Kinlaw Cemetery), Old Still Road, Woodbine.

For those who are unable to attend, graveside services will be live-streamed through the website royalfuneralhomeinc.com.
