37-year-old man dies in beach incident

A 37-year-old man died Monday afternoon after he was caught in a rip current and pulled away from shore, according to a news release from the Fernandina Beach Fire Department.

More apartments in Wildlight?

A new Wildlight apartment complex – owned by Raydient LLC – was proposed at a Nassau County Development Review Committee meeting May 11. The project – “Hathaway, Parcel 5B(s)” – would be built on 21.73 acres and consist of about 300 garden-style apartments.
Nan Voit will continue with one of her favorite parts of her job, teaching a few lessons, after she retires from her position as Fernandina Beach Parks and Recreation director. “If you watch a child that doesn’t want to go to a swimming lesson, or summer camp or aquatics camp, and to see them become more comfortable and grow and come out of their shell, it’s really rewarding. When they do what they are supposed to do, you can’t help but get excited.”

LIVING LEGACY

A tribute was made to the Nassau County Council on Aging President and CEO Janice Ancrum at the grand reopening of the Fernandina Beach Life Center on Thursday. The center was renamed the Janice Ancrum Senior Life Center in her honor.
