The COVID-19 numbers for Nassau County

Tuesday, Sept 8: Five more deaths related to COVID-19 were officially reported in Nassau County in the past week, bringing the total to 25.

Chip Ross wants to continue city’s progress

Dr. Chip Ross is the first to admit he’s “not a warm and fuzzy person,” but, he says, he gets things done, so he’s running for a second time to finish the work he started during his first term. Ross currently holds the Group 3 seat on the City Commission.

Chase yields drugs and guns

A man from Atlanta and a woman from Claxton, Ga., were arrested after leading Nassau County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a high-speed chase Wednesday. Nicolin Gail Broderway, 38, who was driving, forced vehicles off the road and narrowly avoided others before striking two.
This beach access along Ocean Avenue is a breach of the dune, which creates a flooding hazard. The dune, says coastal geomorphologist Dr. Frank Hopf, protects the north end of Amelia Island from storm surge, and is being damaged by people walking through it to access the beach. The city says it will apply for a grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for funds to build a walkover at the location to protect the dune from damage. Dune Science Group to head protection project for the city

The city of Fernandina Beach will apply for a grant to build a walkover on the north end of the island while also implementing a plan to rebuild the dune that runs along Ocean Avenue, thanks to the generosity of a resident. At the Sept.

Yulee man injured in machete incident

A man seen covered in blood and running from a Yulee residence told Nassau County Sheriff’s Office deputies he might only need stitches for his wounds, but the person who allegedly cut him with a machete will now need to answer to charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

New marina management will be Oasis

Oasis Marinas is “over the moon” about the opportunity to manage the Fernandina Harbor Marina after the Fernandina Beach City Commission voted unanimously to award a contract to the company at its Sept. 1 meeting.
