The COVID-19 numbers for Nassau County

Tuesday, Sept. 1: As of Tuesday, there have been 20 deaths related to COVID-19 reported for Nassau County, and 115 residents have been hospitalized. A total of 1,728 cases have been assigned to Nassau County by FDOH, including residents and nonresidents.

The Nassau County School Board received some sobering news last week: The Nassau County School District had, as of Aug.

Few people are lucky enough to land their dream job straight out of college, but Anthony Dunkelberger did.

Southern Blend serves up sweet treats

Southern Blend is a brand new dessert café that opened in Yulee on Aug. 15. Owners Joe and Jennifer Timmon report that customers are already raving about their glazed, chocolate, and caramel-pecan donuts. In addition to donuts, the couple serves up coffee, ice cream, and breakfast and lunch items.

Crews three-time all-county MVP

The Hilliard Flashes dominated the basketball court in 2019-20, led by their 6-foot-7 shooting guard, Jacob Crews, who is now a three-time All-Nassau County Basketball Team MVP. Crews scored 2,500 career points and owns Hilliard’s single-game record of 53 points.

County extends emergency and mask orders

The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners held a special meeting Wednesday to extend the current state of emergency related to the coronavirus pandemic through Sept. 2, “due to on-going situations associated with COVID-19 in areas within the county.

Coronavirus cases rise at long-term care facility

A nursing home in Fernandina Beach has had a significant number of novel coronavirus infections, but the corporation that owns it is not sharing any information about how the virus got in the facility or how it plans to deal with the outbreak.

FPU: June estimates resulted in higher electric bills in July

According to the social media website Nextdoor, electric bills for some area residents rose 75% over a one-month period, but Florida Public Utilities said the increase was due to some bills being estimated, which led to a lower bill for June.
