Marina RFP committee recommends Oasis

After conducting research and interviews as they considered four proposals, an evaluation committee has elected to recommend to the Marina Advisory Board and the Fernandina Beach City Commission that Oasis Marinas LLC take over management of the Fernandina Harbor Marina.

Schools scheduled to open on Monday

As principals held their own meeting Tuesday and the community headed to the polls to vote for the next schools superintendent, Nassau County Schools Superintendent Dr. Kathy Burns remained confident that brick-and-mortar schools will reopen for in-person learning as planned on Monday, Aug. 24.

Neighbors alarmed by destruction of treed area

The residents of Fern Parke Way in the Flora Parke community just off Amelia Island were disturbed on the morning of Aug. 12 by the sound of construction equipment. An area of the quiet cul-de-sac marked on official documents as open space, including wetlands and wetland buffers, was being cleared.

Coronavirus Task Force report shows Nassau County is in the ‘yellow zone’

According to a White House Coronavirus Task Force summary report to state governors dated July 14, Nassau County is a “yellow zone” for coronavirus infections and cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In the same report, Duval County is classified as a “red zone.

Kreger questions purchasing failures

When will teams get to use city’s sports fields?

Fernandina Beach City Attorney Tammi Bach said Tuesday the city’s Parks & Recreation Department is receiving requests daily to use the city-owned fields and asked the City Commission for some direction in the matter.
