School reopening plan OK’d

The Nassau County School Board has unanimously approved a plan for schools to reopen Aug. 24, as the majority of parents of county students have told the School Board they will send their children back to brick-and-mortar classrooms for the upcoming school year.

Community Redevelopment Agency adds money to city’s coffers

The amount of money in the Fernandina Beach Community Redevelopment Agency’s account is set to double next year, thanks to tax revenue from the development of high-end townhomes in a specific 39.5 acre downtown area called the Community Redevelopment Area.

City suspends water disconnection fees

While disconnect notices for nonpayment of Fernandina Beach water service resumed July 1, the city of Fernandina Beach extended its suspension of the disconnection fees related to the service until the middle of August due to the ongoing economic impact of the coronavirus.

City cancels some events to officially downsize crowds

The coronavirus pandemic was again a major point of discussion at the Fernandina Beach City Commission’s meeting on July 20 and resulted in commissioners canceling several upcoming events and extending the city’s emergency declaration.
