Camden wrestlers earn All-American honors

Four Camden County wrestlers earned All-American accolades at the 36th annual National High School Coaches Association High School Nationals last Friday through Sunday in Virginia Beach, Va. The majority of the Camden entrants were in the junior boys brackets.

Boys, girls soccer ’Cats sweep Colquitt in Region 1-6A clashes

With a blowout and a penalty kick shootout, the Camden County boys and girls soccer Wildcats swept visiting Colquitt last Friday night. The girls scored seven first-half goals and cruised to rise to 10-2 overall and 6-2 in Region 1-6A action.

Wildcat baseball falls in twinbill

With a Region 1-6A series still to play, the Diamond Wildcats stayed on the outside looking in for the state playoffs.  Camden County (4-17 overall, 0-12 region) lost a doubleheader last Friday at Richmond Hill, which closed a three-game sweep and vaulted to second place in the conference.

Netters ace Fernandina; boys bash Valdosta in region play-in

Last week in Kingsland, the Camden County High boys tennis ’Cats beat visiting Valdosta in a play-in match for the Region 1-6A tournament, and joined the girls to sweep Fernandina Beach in the regular-season finale in Kingsland.

’Cat boys golfers seventh in Colquitt, fall to Ware

A 326 total put the Camden County boys golfers seventh of 24 teams last Saturday at the Packer Invitational in Moultrie. At Sunset Country Club, the Wildcats’ R.J. James was 3-under on the front nine and finished at 73.

Ware girls topple CCHS by seven shots at Laurel Island

The Ware girls golfers shot a 126 to Camden County’s 133 last Thursday at Laurel Island Links. Georgia Blount carded a 38 for the varsity, followed by Sadie Streit’s 44, Brooke Martin’s 51. Alexis Faisst’s 55 and Samantha Askins’ 56. Eighth-grader Sarah Beth Wilson posted 37 for the junior varsity.

CCHS finishes fourth, eighth at Valdosta track and field meet

Daniel McGuirt, Sean Green, Aura Vessels and Marin Bograd all won events as the Camden County boys and girls track and field teams placed fourth and eighth last Friday in the Wildcat Invitational Friday Night Lights meet at Valdosta High.  For the boys, who earned 73.

Varsity Gymcats close third at North Oconee

The Camden County High varsity Gymcats placed third with a 95.45 score last Saturday at North Oconee. Alyssa Thompson’s best individual score was an 8.3 on the vault. She added 8.1 for the floor exercise, 7.95 for the bars, and 7.5 on the balance beam for a 31.85 all-around.

CCHS soccer teams notch eighth, ninth victories

The Camden County boys and girls soccer teams swept Tift and Frederica Academy last week, but conference leader Richmond Hill pinned two Region 1-6A defeats on them Tuesday.

Lowndes sweeps Diamond ’Cats in region set

The Diamond Wildcats’ Region 1-6A struggles continued with three losses to Lowndes last week, and a defeat to visiting Richmond Hill in a series opener Tuesday. Still searching for its first region triumph, Camden County (4-15 overall) will visit Richmond Hill for a doubleheader Friday.
