CCHS rifle team reaches state finals

The Camden County High rifle ’Cats earned a chance to defend their Georgia High School Association title by beating Buford, 1,158-1,135 in a state semifinal Tuesday in Kingsland. “It was a very competitive match,” coach Stephen Banta said. “Buford came in as one of the hot teams in the state.

CCHS girls edge Ware, place fifth at Jekyll

The Camden County girls golfers opened their season last week, with a win over Ware and a duo placing fifth in a Jekyll Island tournament. Georgia Blount and Sarah Beth Wilson teamed for a 2-under 70 last Saturday at the Red Ryder Invitational hosted by Glynn Academy.

Ware boys golfers top ’Cats by 13 shots

The Ware boys golfers shot the two lowest scores of the day to trip Camden County, 154-167 last Thursday at Laurel Island Links. The Gators’ Trace Carter fired a 33 and Asher Dean a 39, and were backed by 41s from Eli Taft and Brody Martin.

Boys place seventh, girls 14th at Speziale track and field meet

Sean Green and Marin Bograd won events, the Camden County boys placed seventh overall and the girls took 14th last Saturday at the 11th annual Craig Speziale Memorial track and field invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

’Cats notch first two wins, fall to Effingham

The Diamond ’Cats took down a defending state champion for their first victory last Thursday, then added another one-run win over before falling Tuesday at home. The Wildcats (2-4) have three non-region games remaining before opening Region 1-6A play March 4 against visiting Colquitt.

Wildcat netters are fifth, seventh in Jekyll

The Camden County High boys won two of three matches for fifth place and the girls one of three for seventh last weekend at the Jekyll Jam tennis tournament.  Both Wildcat teams dropped their first matches, the boys to Athens Academy and the girls to Oconee County last Friday.

Boys, girls split 1-6A soccer matches

The Camden County boys and girls soccer teams swept a Region 1-6A doubleheader from visiting Lowndes last Friday before suffering their first defeats Tuesday to Richmond Hill. Both the boys and girls stood 4-1 overall and 2-1 in region action leading into Friday conference matches at Tift.

Bograd, Kirkpatrick, Green win for CCHS track and field

Marin Bograd won two events, and Braylon Kirkpatrick and Sean Green one apiece for the Camden County track and field teams last Friday at the Game Changers Alley Invitational hosted by Richmond Hill. Bograd swept the girls 1,600 (5:18.26) and 3,200 (11:25.81).

CCHS girls golfers shooting for state

A team return to the state tournament is high on the to-do list for the Camden County High girls golfers, who open the season Thursday and play their first tournament Saturday.

Frederica Academy boys defeat Wildcats on links

The Frederica Academy boys golfers posted four scores of 37 or better Tuesday to defeat Camden County, 140-161 at Osprey Cove. Freshman Archie Disanto had the Wildcats’ best score, a 37, while Dillon Brown shot a 39, R.J. James a 42, and Charlie Bera and Cash Dowling 43s.
