The Camden County High School Marching Band was named the Grand Champions of the Okefenokee Sound of Gold Marching Competition on Oct. 22. The band scored a 97.0 in its historic win and collected a 7-foot-tall trophy.

Camden County EMA awarded grant for AM radio stations

The Camden County Board of Commissioners accepted a $60,178.50 grant from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) on Oct. 18 for the purchase of portable AM radio stations.

Nursing scholarship honors faculty member

In September 2021, the College of Coastal Georgia lost one of its beloved faculty members who truly inspired students to be their best. Associate Professor of Nursing Dawana Gibbs, who was a champion for students and emphasized a culture of compassion in nursing, died.

County administrator bound for Florida

Camden County is in need of a new county administrator. Steve Howard, 50, who has served as the top executive of county government for 15 years, was hired Tuesday night by the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners as its next county manager. “It’s bittersweet,” Howard said.

Marker moves forward

More than three years after agreeing to construct a historical marker honoring the Camden County Training School, St. Marys City Council instructed staff to begin work on bringing it to reality.

The College of Coastal Georgia is offering two new minor degrees to complement students’ majors and expand their educational experience — a Minor in Diversity and Inclusion, and a Minor in Sociology. The Minor in Diversity and Inclusion is an interdisciplinary program.
