St. Marys city employees to see pay hike

The city of St. Marys approved a flat pay raise for all employees Monday to be phased in in stages.  Starting March 29, all permanent city employees will receive an extra $1 per hour on top of the 4.

Multiple projects moving forward

During Monday’s St. Marys City Council meeting, multiple major developments took significant steps forward, including the St. Marys Commerce Park Project and two planned RV parks. Camden County Joint Development Authority Executive Director James Coughlin handed the city a $676,152.

Brunswick woman charged with homicide by vehicle

A 34-year-old Brunswick woman was arrested March 16 and charged with homicide by vehicle, first degree, non-habitual violator and serious injury by vehicle, according to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office jail log.

Hope 1312 Collective donates to foundation

The Coastal Pines Technical College Foundation received a $5,000 donation from the Hope 1312 Collective organization. The donation was used to set up the Hope 1312 Scholarship for Coastal Pines Technical College students.

Chairman calls for special grand jury

Cumberland Island National Seashore to add 173 acres

The National Park Service was given $8.7 million by Congress to buy the Nature Conservancy’s 173.7 acres of land on Cumberland Island. This item was requested by U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., and U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., as part of the 2023 Omnibus Appropriations Act from December.

2 charged in connection to death

A 31-year-old man from Washington State has been charged with murder, according to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office online jail log. Shane Douglas White, 31, of Bremerton, Wash., was booked at 9:54 p.m. Thursday, March 2, and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Newly hired St. Marys police officer has long history of driving infractions

Brandon Thornton, a former Kingsland Police Department patrol officer who resigned after crashing his patrol car on Dec. 21, was sworn in as a St. Marys Police Department officer Feb. 3.
