Firefighters mourn one of their own

The last day of his life, Efren Medina lived his dream. He got to help people as an EMT and firefighter in training, working his first shift with the St. Marys Fire Department. “He was ecstatic to say the least. … It was a dream for him,” firefighter Cissy Kelley said on behalf of the department.

It’s not over yet but things are looking up in the fight against COVID-19 in Camden County — though masks, social distancing and hand washing are still recommended.
The St. Marys Kiwanis Club recognized two STAR students Monday, Karson Lewis (right) and Aaron Dino (left), for achieving the highest SAT scores. Each students gets to pick a teacher to share the recognition. Dino picked Lisa Clark (center) and Lewis chose Susan McMurray.

St Marys man indicted in soldier's murder

A federal grand jury has indicted a St. Marys man for allegedly conspiring to murder a Fort Stewart soldier who reported him for using drugs while serving in the Army. The victim also reported another soldier, who is directly charged with his murder.

Rep Carter cancels appeal, sues Camden County

U.S. Rep. Earl “Buddy” Carter claims he was “knowingly misled” by county staff while appealing the taxable value of his property and is seeking relief through Camden County Superior Court.  A hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 27 in Judge Anthony Harrison’s courtroom in Woodbine.

Museum celebrates 25 years

What become the St. Marys Submarine Museum started as a call in the late 1980s to veterans of the silent service. The Kings Bay squadron command staff, led by now Vice Adm. Al Konetzni Jr., wrote to every sub vet they could find, asking for items to commemorate the bond between submariners.
