Early voting opens in Kingsland election

Early voting opens Monday in a special election to elect a citizen to Post 3 on Kingsland City Council. Vying for the seat are Sanjay Patel, Bryant Shepard and Kristy Chance Starke. All Kingsland council seats are at-large and elected by a majority. Early voting is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kings Bay sailor dies from COVID complications

A Kings Bay sailor died last week from COVID-19 complications after being admitted to Shands in Jacksonville, according to a press release from the U.S. Navy. He is the third sailor Navy-wide and one of 21 military members service-wide who have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
Materials were delivered this week to start rebuilding the Cumberland Island ferry dock into downtown St. Marys that was destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017. The dock is just one of many projects under construction throughout Kingsland and St. Marys.

Building is going strong in Kingsland and St. Marys with hundreds of permits issued last year and several builds already permitted this year.

Police arrest man after chase, crash

A St. Marys man who tossed a toddler at police to get away was eventually arrested after a car chase, crash and a search on foot with the bloodhound team on Saturday. St. Marys police officer Cynthia Cartagena was responding to the crash around 10:30 a.m.

Health district resumes vaccine appointments

The Coastal Health District has begun scheduling COVID-19 vaccine appointments again, though who can receive the vaccine and supplies remain limited. Appointments can be made through a new online portal, chdcovidvax.org.
