The hunt for Jeff Herron’s successor is under way after the legendary Camden County High head football coach announced his retirement last Friday after 32 years leading programs in Georgia and South Carolina.

Vessel that struck whale calf likely not covered by federal speed rule

The vessel that struck the calf of North Atlantic right whale Juno recently was between 35 and 57 feet long and not subject to whale-related federal vessel speed regulations, according to a report from NOAA Fisheries. Scientists believe a vessel struck the calf sometime between Dec. 9 and Jan. 3.

State loan to finance landfill expansion

There needs to be a place to put Camden County’s trash, and that place is currently running out of space. Pending confirmation by the Board of Commissioners, the county is to receive a $3 million loan from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority.

Camden County High School’s Aili Johnson center was the winner of the 2024 Miss Wildcat pageant Saturday in the high school’s auditorium. Johnson received a $2,000 scholarship with her win.

Construction company donates $50K to hospital

C.L. Burks Construction demonstrated its commitment to improving access to quality health care in Camden County by redirecting $50,000 of its tax liability to the Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus.
