Camden County Fire Rescue has added seven new firefighters to its force after a recruiting class completed its Basic Firefighter requirements. L’Shawn Bermudez, Dominick Esposito, Jaden Lee, Casey Franklin, Keenan Hanna, Joshua Harman and Alaina Knapp were recognized at a graduation ceremony.

Before Jim Proctor was Camden County’s sheriff, he was the sheriff’s office’s jail administrator. For 14 years, Proctor operated the jail. He knows a thing or two about how it works. When Proctor was the jail administrator, the number of inmates was significantly lower.

Eagle Scout wins state honor

Braydon Smith of Kingsland Scout Troop 8385 was recognized as the VFW Georgia Eagle Scout of the Year in June in Macon. He was accompanied by his mother, Cheryl Smith, and younger brother, Zachary Smith, who is also an Eagle Scout. Both brothers advanced to Eagle Scout in 2022.

Southeast Georgia Health System recently presented the BEE Award to Jason Milton in recognition of his willingness to always provide superior support to his peers. The BEE Award honors and recognizes team members outside of nursing who go Beyond Exceptional Expectations (BEE).

The Music in the Park event Saturday, Sept. 9, will feature The Honey Badgers out of Fernandina Beach, Fla., playing from 6-8 p.m. at St. Marys Waterfront Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair for the concert. A food truck will be available to purchase dinner.

Kingsland City Council heard its first presentation of the 2023-24 budget Monday evening, and City Council members appeared pleased with the financial progress the city is making. The proposed budget – presented by Finance Director Filiz Morrow – includes the addition of 11.5 positions and $24.

Hurricane Idalia came and went. On Wednesday, Camden County experiences the outer edges of the hurricane, which made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 storm. A late push to the west kept Camden County of her direct path, but damage and power outages were reported Wednesday and Thursday.
