St. Marys secures $1.7 million grant

The city of St. Marys was recently awarded a $1,735,400 grant to extend the Tabby Trail. The grant comes from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Fund, which is raised from a sales tax on sporting goods, according to the Capitol Beat News Service Bureau.

Vessel that struck whale calf likely not covered by federal speed rule

The vessel that struck the calf of North Atlantic right whale Juno recently was between 35 and 57 feet long and not subject to whale-related federal vessel speed regulations, according to a report from NOAA Fisheries. Scientists believe a vessel struck the calf sometime between Dec. 9 and Jan. 3.

State loan to finance landfill expansion
