The Camden County Board of Commissioners announced that Cassie Turpin completed the necessary steps to become a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) through the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM).

In a nod to the shrimping industry that brought so many to coastal Georgia, state Rep. Steven Sainz’s attempt to get the white shrimp named as the official state crustacean advanced this week in the Senate. The bill, HB 1341, previously cleared the House of Representatives on a 171-0 vote on Feb.

The first North Atlantic right whale calf of the season washed up dead on Cumberland Island recently, both a symbolic and very real representation of the struggle to prevent the species from sliding into extinction.
