Lowndes presents difficult test Friday

Region 1-6A has four teams at 1-1 in conference play. Two of them clash Friday night in Valdosta. Camden County and Lowndes, both 6-1 overall, have played every season since 2012, often with much in the balance.

Camden softball splits doubleheader with Lowndes, ends season

The Camden County High softball team closed a 12-15 season by splitting a home doubleheader Oct. 8 with Region 1-6A rival Lowndes. The Lady Wildcats lost the first game, 7-1, then won the second, 5-4 to finish a fifth-place 4-11 in the conference. The top four region teams qualified for state.

Lady Wildcats close regular season with loss to South Effingham

The Camden County High volleyball squad tumbled, 25-16, 25-21, 26-24 in its final state tournament tuneup Oct. 8 at South Effingham. Raelyn Williams led the Lady Wildcats in both kills (eight) and aces (two), had two blocks, and shared dig honors (10) with Millie Mayerlen.

Valdosta pins first setback on Wildcats

Valdosta scored five unanswered touchdowns from a first-half stalemate and sped away from visiting Camden County, 56-37 in the Region 1-6A opener for both schools last Saturday afternoon.

’Cats brace for Richmond Hill running attack

After Valdosta put two runners over 100 yards last week, Camden County prepared to face another prolific rushing attack this weekend. Richmond Hill (6-0 overall) won its Region 1-6A opener last Friday over Tift, 21-17 and was set to meet CCHS (5-1) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Chris Gilman Stadium.

CCHS spikers win twice at 1-6A tourney, earn third state seed

Camden County won twice at the Region 1-6A volleyball tournament last Saturday in Moultrie and earned the third seed for the state tournament starting next week. The Lady Wildcats (16-17) beat Tift and Colquitt in two sets, and took Richmond Hill to three before falling.

CCHS softball falls to Richmond Hill, defeats Charlton

Richmond Hill swept a three-game Region 1-6A softball series from Camden County last week, winning Oct. 1 in Kingsland and taking a doubleheader Oct. 3 at home. CCHS stood 11-14 overall and 3-10 in region play following the series and a win Monday at Charlton.

’Cats, Valdosta tangle Saturday in 1-6A opener

Hurricane Helene prevented Camden County and Valdosta from launching the Region 1-6A schedule last weekend, so the teams will try again Saturday. The scheduled kickoff will be 1 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium in Valdosta in a clash of two of the region’s four undefeated schools.

Tift tops Camden in softball matchup

A pitchers duel went Tift’s way Sept. 24 in the opener of a Region 1-6A softball series with Camden County, and the Lady Devils rolled to two road wins the next day to sweep the three-game set. Camden dipped to 10-11 overall and 3-7 in region play, while Tift rose to 16-7 and 8-4.
