Swim ’Cats claim combined title at Valdosta meet

The Camden County High boys and girls swimmers touched the wall first in the combined team standings at the Valdosta Wildcat Invitational Nov. 16.  The boys accounted for seven of Camden’s eight event wins on the day, Jack McNeil and Clayton Simmer with two apiece, and Elliott Fayed another.

Wildcats’ season closes with first-round loss

For the second time in four seasons, North Cobb has bounced Camden County from the state playoffs. The Region 5 champion Warriors (11-0) did all of their damage in the second and third quarters last Friday night to stop the visiting Wildcats (7-4), 28-7 in a first-round Class 6A meeting.

Elyiss Williams was named Offensive Player of the Year and David Coleman Athlete of the Year, and 22 other Wildcats earned first-team, second-team or honorable-mention Region 1-6A football praise.

Two games, two routs. The Camden County High girls hoopsters quickly turned their first two contests into mismatches, defeating Johnson last Saturday and South Effingham Tuesday. Both games were in Kingsland. The Lady Wildcats (2-0) will play in a Thanksgiving tournament in Jacksonville, Fla.

Second-half surge keys boys’ first triumph

A second-half sprint Tuesday carried the Camden County High boys hoopsters to their first win, three days after an opening setback in Valdosta.  The Wildcats followed a narrow defeat to Worth County at the Titletown Tipoff Classic last Saturday with a rousing rally past visiting South Effingham.
