Former teacher arrested for battery

A former Camden County teacher was arrested Monday for allegedly having inappropriate contact with students, according to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.  Steven Rayle, 58, of Waverly faces four counts of felony sexual battery against a child younger than 16 years old.

St. Marys is looking to turn a temporary contract with Clearwater Solutions into a long-term one to manage its water and wastewater treatment facilities. Clearwater says the $693,887 contract could save the city about $150,000 in the first year.

Early voting opens Monday in a special election to elect a citizen to Post 3 on Kingsland City Council. Vying for the seat are Sanjay Patel, Bryant Shepard and Kristy Chance Starke. All Kingsland council seats are at-large and elected by a majority. Early voting is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kings Bay sailor dies from COVID complications

A Kings Bay sailor died last week from COVID-19 complications after being admitted to Shands in Jacksonville, according to a press release from the U.S. Navy. He is the third sailor Navy-wide and one of 21 military members service-wide who have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
Materials were delivered this week to start rebuilding the Cumberland Island ferry dock into downtown St. Marys that was destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017. The dock is just one of many projects under construction throughout Kingsland and St. Marys.
