A LIFE LIKE NO OTHER

Susan Martin | Amelia Island Museum of History Most of us have heard of Anna Kingsley through the Kingsley Plantation, south of Amelia Island on Fort George Island.  But the life story of this amazing woman defies belief.
Mistey Burns’ granddaughter, Maddie Berry, provided the inspiration for the name of her business, Baby Cakes, when she used the term to describe cupcakes, which Burns said she prefers to bake. “I cannot decorate a cake worth a flip,” Burns said. “But, according to Maddie, cupcakes are baby cakes, and anybody can decorate a baby cake.”

After spending 20 years in the corporate world, Mistey Burns has begun a new career following what she believes is a higher calling: creating delicious baked goods that can be eaten by anyone, even those who have to follow dietary restrictions.

Keep Nassau Beautiful and The Arc Nassau recently completed the planting of nine new shade trees along the walking path located at The Arc property on Hamilton Street in Yulee. The trees were provided under a new Keep Nassau Beautiful program: Planting Nassau’s Future.
The Ocean Highway and Port Authority recognized Administrative Office Manager Barb Amergian, who will be leaving her position next month. “It’s been a pleasure, I’ve enjoyed it immensely,” Amergian said to a round of applause. “I’ve learned so much so quickly and made some very great friends along the way.”

One charter amendment fails in Fernandina Beach election

The results of Fernandina Beach’s mail-in election of amendments to the city’s charter showed 19 of the 20 proposed amendments were approved by voters. Only the amendment that would have allowed more than two community redevelopment districts in the city failed. There were 2,431 ballots cast, 20.
