Nassau County commissioners OK new health director

Nassau County’s longtime health director is retiring, and the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners approved her replacement Monday during their meeting. After 30 years in public health, Dr. Eugenia Ngo-Seidel is retiring as director of the Florida Department of Health – Nassau County.

Commissioners: Apologies were for bad law

Fernandina Beach's city manager asked city commissioners to be cautious when apologizing to residents for interactions with city staff, such as police officers, but two commissioners said they were apologizing because of city policy.

Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez spoke at a Federated Republican Women of Nassau meeting Friday at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. She was greeted with applause upon entering the room, and those attending provided words of encouragement as she discussed her family’s journey to the U.S.

Fernandina Beach commissioners conducted a workshop Tuesday about the city’s building department, but the leader of that department did not attend. The Nassau County Chamber of Commerce recently conducted a survey of its members about Fernandina Beach’s levels of service.

The tunes will flow, but only up to 80 decibels when a new Fernandina Beach noise ordinance takes effect.  An ordinance placing measurable limits on sound levels passed 4-1 by the Fernandina Beach City Commission. Commissioner Len Kreger was opposed.
