April is National Volunteer Month, which highlights the contributions of volunteers and encourages people to donate their time to a local, national or global cause.

Inaugural horse shoe tournament held

The Elm Street Sportsman Association held an inaugural horse shoe tournament Saturday at the MLK Jr. Center. New pits were added near the picnic tables, and competitors enjoyed beautiful weather on the eve of Easter. Another tournament is in the works.

Solid waste management is a vital concern with the anticipated population increase in Nassau County, according to Nassau County Public Works Director Doug Podiak and Kessler Consulting’s Chas Jordan, who spoke Monday at the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners meeting.
