NassauTRANSIT ends Jax direct service

NassauTRANSIT, the county’s public transportation system, has announced a change to its Monday through Friday public transit schedule.  Effective April 1, direct public transit service between Nassau County and Jacksonville will discontinue. This change is for public transit service only.

Senior center renovation begins

Renovation is poised to begin on the Nassau County Council on Aging’s Westside Senior Life Center in Hilliard.  The more than 50-year-old building at 37002 Ingham Road will receive major repair and safety upgrades to meet the expanding needs of local seniors.

An audit of the books of Nassau County showed the county government is “a prudent steward of the public funds entrusted to it,” according to Ron Whitesides of Purvis, Gray and Co., a certified public accounting firms.

‘Personal care attendants’ eyed in nursing homes

Christine Sexton | News Service of Florida TALLAHASSEE — Florida nursing homes would be allowed to operate apprenticeship programs and use participants’ on-the-job training to meet state minimum staffing requirements, under a bill approved Wednesday by a Senate health committee.

Callahan clerk resigns

Callahan Town Clerk Stephanie Knagge resigned her post March 15. She read from a letter during the Callahan Town Council meeting, noting that March 31 will be her last day.  The council met in Callahan Volunteer Fire Station 5, as the air conditioning was not working in town hall.
