Ocean Highway and Port Authority Commissioner Miriam Hill said the move to hire a former OHPA commission member as attorney for the port smacks of “a good, ole boy” network move, but the other commissioners disagreed.

Callahan woman arrested in school bus

A Callahan woman, Melissa Gail Lacey, was arrested last week when Nassau County Sheriff’s Office deputies found her in a Nassau County school bus in the wee hours of the morning.
Rob Batterton and his son, Flint, are the new owners of the Fairbanks House, a historic and popular bed and breakfast on South Seventh Street. The two, along with Rob’s wife, Yvonne, came to Fernandina Beach from Redwood City, Calif.

Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance President Bill Warner announced the 26th annual event will move to May 20-23 in response to the latest development in the coronavirus pandemic.  The event is normally scheduled for March.

One of Fernandina Beach’s new city commissioners says he supports wearing a mask to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, but believes it is “dishonest” to approve a requirement that cannot be enforced by law enforcement officials.
