Nassau County receives leadership awards

Wednesday was an award-winning day for the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners. During the commissioners’ morning meeting, the Northeast Florida Regional Planning CEO Elizabeth Payne presented the county with two regional leadership awards.
Construction, such as these condos on Beech and Second streets, is booming in Fernandina Beach. That increase in building has led to a surge in revenue to the city’s Building Department in the form of permit fees. The department has $3 million in surplus, more than is allowed by the state of Florida, and is currently devising a plan to lower that surplus through fee reductions.

County seeks courthouse expansion funding

The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners hopes the state Legislature appropriates funds for expansion at the Robert M. Foster Justice Center.  Again. On Feb. 11, commissioners approved a legislative request for $500,000 for the courthouse project.

Community for 55 and older coming to Wildlight property

A community for those 55 and older is currently under construction in Wildlight, PulteGroup announced this week. According to a statement from PulteGroup, development of the community, Del Webb Wildlight, is currently underway with model home projected to open in early 2022.
