CCHS girls place third, boys fourth at Richmond Hill track meet

Camden County track and field athletes Rickey Williams and Akeelah Bryan won events and Dasmine Cooper tied for first place in another Monday in the Game Changers Apex Invitational at Richmond Hill. Williams won the 200 sprint (21.83) for the boys, who were fourth of eight schools with 87 points.

Gymcats close season strong, win last two meets

The Camden County High varsity and junior varsity gymnastics teams both won their last two meets last weekend in Milledgeville and McDonough. Last Friday, the varsity scored a 94.95 in McDonough, then followed that with a 101.1 last Saturday in Milledgeville. The junior varsity’s marks were 87.

St. Marys Middle tops Camden in inaugural Steve Conner Classic

The St. Marys Middle baseball Bobcats got all the offense they would need in the first inning to defeat Camden Middle, 7-3 in the inaugural Steve Conner Classic at the Camden County High diamond. The Cougars scored two in the top of the first, but St. Marys answered with five in its half.

Camden repeats as state rifle champion

The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) state rifle championships last Saturday had a new competition format, a new finals setup, a different venue — and a happily familiar champion.

Netters seal No. 1, No. 2 seeds for region tourney

The Camden County boys will take the No. 1 seed to the Region 1-7A tennis tournament and the girls the No. 2 seed after both teams beat Valdosta, 4-1 in the final regular-season region matches last Thursday in Kingsland.

Shutout of Valdosta is Camden’s second Region 1-7A victory

Will Johnson fired a five-hit shutout, and Camden County evened its Region 1-7A record at 2-2 Tuesday by edging visiting Valdosta, 2-0.  Giving the bullpen a day off, Johnson fanned seven and didn’t walk anybody while tossing 84 pitches. He also had one of the winners’ three hits.

CCHS soccer sweeps Colquitt

The Camden County girls soccer squad won their third Region 1-7A match and the boys their fourth last Friday by sweeping Colquitt at Chris Gilman Stadium. A non-region split followed Tuesday at Wayne.

Wildcat track and field athletes place at Bob Hayes Invitational

Sean Green’s fourth place in the long jump was the highest finish for either the Camden County High boys or girls track and field teams last Saturday at the Bob Hayes Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. Green covered 22-2.

Varsity, JV Gymcats first at Colquitt meet

The Camden County High varsity and junior varsity gymnastics teams earned first places and Alyssa Thompson won the varsity all-around last Friday at Colquitt. The varsity, first of nine teams, garnered a 96.5 team mark, highlighted by Thompson’s 32.95 all-around score.

Girls golfers third, boys sixth in Statesboro Stableford tournament

The Camden County High boys and girls golfers tackled a different format last Saturday at the Stinger Stableford Shootout in Statesboro.
