Camden boys net state 17-U basketball title

The Camden County 17-U boys basketball squad captured the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) state Class B championship last Saturday at Effingham County High School.  Camden defeated host Effingham, 75-55 in the first round, then edged Jones County, 61-53 in the final.

Wildcat track teams win events at Lowndes

Overtime was unkind to both the Camden County High boys and girls soccer teams last week in Region 1-7A action, though the girls rebounded for an overpowering road win. The girls responded to a Feb. 27 loss at Richmond Hill by scoring four goals in each half to crush Colquitt last Friday.

First-round playoffs trip CCHS hoopsters

The first hurdle in the state Class 7A basketball playoffs tripped the Camden County girls and boys Feb. 21. Both teams closed 21-7 seasons, the boys falling at home to Region 4 fourth-seed Archer, and the girls tumbling at Region 4 runner-up Newton.

Camden advances in rifle playoffs

The Camden County High rifle team cruised to the next round of the state playoffs by routing visiting Harris County last Thursday.  The Area 3 champions and defending state champions shot the five highest individual scores of the day to oust the Columbus-area school, 1,161-1,006.

Enthusiasm high as esports program launches at CCHS

The inception of an esports program at Camden County High School this spring is providing students a new arena for their gaming interests plus a fun and competitive release. The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) holds fall and spring esports competitions for several popular games.

’Cat golfers 13th, Blount ties for third at Camden Classic

Griffin Blount placed third on the individual leaderboard and the Camden County High boys golfers finished 13th as a team last Saturday in the annual Camden Classic at windy Osprey Cove. Blount was one of seven players at par or better, shooting a 1-under 71 with an eagle at the 18th hole. R.J.
