Improvement eyed by Camden girls linksters

With three sophomores and a junior on board, the Camden County High girls golf program is building with an eye toward the future. “The sooner girls get exposed to golf in our community the better for our high school team,” said Chris Cottrell, who coaches the team with Brent Blount.

’Cat netters win matches at Jekyll tourney

Facing opposition from around the state, the Camden County High girls netters placed third and the boys seventh last Saturday in a tournament at the Jekyll Island Tennis Center.  The girls sandwiched wins over LaGrange (5-0) and Athens Academy (4-1) around a loss to Oconee County (4-1).

Roland tapped to lead Wildcats program

Camden County High School has its next football coach. On Wednesday afternoon, Camden County Schools’ Board of Education voted 4-1 to hire Mainland High School’s Travis Roland as its next football coach. Roland replaces Jeff Herron, who recently retired from coaching.

’Cats pin down 10th straight traditional title

The final Class 7A state traditional tournament last weekend in Macon ended in familiar fashion, with the first-place trophy heading to the coast and the Camden County wrestlers’ state-title streak very much intact.

Ponte Vedra boys, girls netters sweep Camden

Ashlie Aldridge and Bryce Kriner won at No. 1 doubles but the Ponte Vedra netters took the remaining matches on the girls and boys courts to sweep visiting Camden County, 6-1 and 7-0 last Thursday.

Varsity, JV Gymcats first in weekend meets

Last weekend was a busy one for the Camden County High gymnasts, with meets in Milledgeville and McDonough. The varsity and junior varsity Gymcats placed first with team scores of 95.375 and 88.975 last Saturday in Milledgeville.

CCHS splits 1-7A soccer openers at Lowndes

Camden County split its Region 1-7A soccer openers last Friday at Lowndes, the boys making one goal stand up and the girls tumbling, 4-1. Elijah Rose scored, assisted by Gabe Groomes, for a road win that leveled the boys’ overall record at 2-2.
