Wildcat cross-country runners make state cut

The Camden County High boys and girls cross-country teams both qualified for state with fourth-place overall finishes in the Region 1-7A meet Oct. 26 at Colquitt. Marin Bograd earned girls all-region honors for the second straight season with her fifth-place 20:59.1 time.

’Cats make statement, topple No. 4 Valdosta

Camden County High head coach Jeff Herron said last summer his team needed a signature win to try and get over the hump. If the Wildcats haven’t done that yet, they’re much closer after stunning fourth-ranked Valdosta, 17-14 last Friday in Kingsland.

Swimmer Simmer wins twice at Carey Hilliard’s meet in Savannah

Swimmer Clayton Simmer of the St. Marys Aquatic Club won two events last weekend at the Carey Hilliard’s Invitational last weekend in Savannah. Swimmers with the Camden Boomers also competed at the Chatham County Aquatic Center. Simmer won the boys 15-and-older 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.

Ugly first half spells trouble for Camden

Two weeks ago, Camden County opened its Region 1-7A schedule with a win.  Last Friday, Colquitt did too, at the Wildcats’ expense.

Ozaki to be inducted into Southern Tennis Hall of Fame Jan. 14

Three years after his induction into the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame, Woodbine native Bill Ozaki will soon receive another big honor for his decades-long contributions to the sport. Ozaki will be inducted Jan. 14 into the Southern Tennis Hall of Fame, joining 116 members.

Lady ’Cat softball seals 7A state spot

The state Class 7A playoffs are next for the Camden County Lady softball Wildcats after they closed the regular season with two unopposed Region 1 victories last Saturday.

Cyclists visiting St. Marys for Three Rivers Ride

Cyclists from all over will get a grand view of coastal Georgia’s natural beauty when the eighth annual Three Rivers Ride takes off Saturday, Nov. 5, from St. Marys. Camden Cycling Club treasurer Theresa Cleary said 109 had signed up by Sunday, from across the Southeast and well beyond.
