Riflery team hits target at summer clinics

Students in the Camden County High School rifle program sharpened their skills through instruction and competition at a leading summer program in Alabama. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) hosted a series of hands-on, highly informative camps for junior rifle athletes in Anniston, Ala.

Southern Hospitality camp brings wrestlers to CCHS

The Southern Hospitality wrestling camp brought about 250 to 300 kids to Camden County High School last week for top-notch competition and technique instruction from an accomplished crew of coaches.

Camden Crossfire track and field teams win seven events at district qualifier

Josalyn Glover brought home two first-places and the Camden Crossfire track and field team seven total from the AAU Florida District Qualifier June 4 in Jacksonville, Fla. Glover, competing in the 8-and-younger girls, won the 400-meter dash (1:09.93) — by nearly 11 seconds — and 800 (2:37.44).

Swimmers place at SEGA Splash in Brunswick

Swimmers from the Camden PSA Stingrays, the Camden Boomers and the new St. Marys Aquatic Team took to the pool June 5 at the SEGA Splash long-course meet in Brunswick. Camden Boomers At the Golden Isles YMCA, Noah Corning won the boys 11-and-older 200-meter backstroke in 3:15.

Fun, love of the game are soccer camp goals

Why bother with penalty kicks when rock paper scissors works just fine? The Post to Post Soccer Pathways camp June 6-10 at the Camden PSA Soccer Complex brought about 30 players for instruction from coaches who have covered a lot of ground in the game worldwide.

Anglers land prize catches at St. Marys tourney

The Historic St. Marys Fishing Classic last Saturday attracted a record seven kingfish entries and more than 100 general entries targeting redfish, trout, sheepshead, drum, whiting and flounder.

CCHS welcomes Smith as new girls hoops coach

Camden County High will have a new yet familiar face leading the girls basketball program next season. The school board on May 10 approved Sharnesha Smith as head coach to succeed Keith Ellis, who steered the Lady Wildcats to 415 wins over 25 seasons.

The pipeline between Camden County High wrestling and Life University kept flowing May 11, as Deonte Dozier finalized his intentions to attend and compete at the Atlanta school.
