Big innings spell trouble for Lady Wildcats

Two big innings last week kept the Lady softball Wildcats looking for their first triumph. In non-region duels, host Glynn Academy scored eight in the second inning of a 10-8 win Aug. 23, and visiting Wayne County’s four-run third sealed a 5-1 decision last Thursday.

Reign delay

The weather threw the Wildcat gridders a weekend curveball, but a scrimmage last Saturday afternoon in South Carolina gave Camden County fans plenty to smile about ahead of the regular-season opener.

’Cats travel to Ashley Ridge for scrimmage

The football programs at Camden County and Ashley Ridge high schools may not know much about each other, but they’ll learn more Friday night about themselves and their opposition. The scrimmage about 200 miles away at the Swamp Foxes’ den in Summerville, S.C.

CCHS softball welcomes new head coach, big senior class

A six-strong senior class greets Kayla Miller in her first season as Camden County High softball head coach. This week, the Tuesday season-opener at Bradwell Institute was rained out and rescheduled for Aug. 31 in Hinesville. The Lady Wildcats were slated to play Ware in the home opener Aug.

UGA athletics exhibit stops in St. Marys

As ingrained as sports are in our culture, it can stretch the mind to know they were once novelties. For Jason Hasty, a University of Georgia athletics history specialist, his job managing the UGA athletic association archives and 130 years’ worth of the school’s sports history is a labor of love.
